Welcome to Unown.org

Join us to protect the environment

unOwn Foundation is doing great work in the field of climate action. Their focus on carbon capture through bamboo planting, zero garbage communities, and Miyawaki  forests is commendable. Coral reef restoration is also an important area of work, and I am glad that unOwn is also working on this.

Here are some of the benefits of unOwn Foundation's work:

  • Bamboo planting can help to sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

  • Zero garbage communities can help to reduce waste and pollution.

  • Miyawaki forests can help to improve air quality and provide habitat for wildlife.

  • Coral reef restoration can help to protect marine ecosystems and mitigate the effects of climate change.

I am excited to see what unOwn Foundation will achieve in the future. They are a valuable asset to the climate action community.

Here are some additional details about each of the projects that unOwn Foundation is working on:

Bamboo planting: Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that can sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere at a rate of 10-12 tons per hectare per year. It is also a versatile material that can be used for a variety of purposes, such as construction, furniture, and paper.

Zero garbage communities: A zero garbage community is a community that minimizes its waste production and recycles or composts all of its waste. This can help to reduce pollution and conserve natural resources.

Miyawaki forests: A Miyawaki forest is a type of forest that is planted in a dense and interconnected way. This helps the trees to grow faster and more resilient to climate change. Miyawaki forests can also help to improve air quality and provide habitat for wildlife.

Coral reef restoration: Coral reefs are important ecosystems that provide food and shelter for marine life. However, they are threatened by climate change, pollution, and overfishing. Coral reef restoration is the process of rebuilding damaged or destroyed coral reefs. This can be done by replanting coral fragments or by creating artificial reefs.

Wastewater Recycling

Use recycled water for flushing

Day Zero,
when a city or region runs out of accessible water resources due to factors like drought, overconsumption, and poor water management. It's a critical situation that can lead to severe water shortages and impact the daily lives of residents.

Bengaluru has been facing water challenges due to rapid urbanization, population growth, and inadequate water management practices. The city heavily relies on groundwater, but excessive extraction has led to declining water tables.

To prevent such a situation, it's a shared responsibility of individuals, communities, and authorities to work together and ensure a sustainable water future for Bangalore.

Organic Waste Recycling

recycle food waste to compost

Organic Waste Converter is an essential tool for composting. This device converts organic waste into nutrient-rich compost for use in gardens and farming.

Whoever first chose to name the system as ‘Converter’ may perhaps was trying to reflect the device’s ability to transform organic waste into a valuable resource. Though naming it as a ‘Composter’ would have given it a deeper meaning.

So, with an Organic Waste Composter, organic waste is no longer a problem. By using this device you can reduce your environmental footprint and help create a cleaner, healthier world.

Sustainable Living

sustainable development

Designers are vital in sustainable development efforts. Their role involves creating products, services, and spaces that are environmentally friendly, efficient, and socially beneficial.

Recycling wastewater and solid waste are indeed fundamental aspects of sustainable development. Recycling solid waste reduces landfills. Centralized systems can be expensive to build and maintain, and they might not always be suitable for every community. This is where the idea of decentralized units comes in. Community-based decentralized systems can offer more tailored solutions that take into account local needs and reduce transportation costs.

Proper enforcement and policing are essential for the success of decentralized systems. Communities need to be educated about the benefits and practices of waste management and wastewater recycling. When individuals see the positive impact of their actions on a smaller scale, they are more likely to participate.

Carbon Capture: Undo [Global Warming]

carbon capture using bamboo

Earth has a limited "budget" of carbon dioxide that it can handle before the planet gets too warm due to temperature rise to 2°C above pre-industrial levels.

The international scientific community estimates this budget to be 1000 PgC (peta gram Carbon), till 2011 we have already consumed 52% (515 PgC), It is expected that we'll exceed 1000 PgC before the end of 2045, if emission rates continue unabated.

We are already aware, what this means,

  • Global Sea Level rise is accelerating

  • Forest fires are on the rise

  • Extreme heavy rainfalls have increased

  • Longer, more intense droughts
